Ladakh L-G VK Saxena Reviews Preparations for Sacred Buddha Relics Exposition in Leh and Zanskar
LEH, April 09, 2026: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena, chaired a high-level meeting today to finalize arrangements for the historic Sacred Exposition of the Holy Relics of Lord Buddha.
The meeting, attended by prominent Rinpoches, monks from 16 monasteries, and senior government officials, focused on ensuring a seamless and spiritually enriching experience for the thousands of devotees expected to attend.
Saxena emphasized the importance of global-standard hospitality, directing officials to illuminate landmarks like the Leh Palace and Main Market to create a festive atmosphere.
To enhance the visitor experience, the L-G approved innovative proposals such as drone-based visual presentations of Buddha’s life, QR-code-enabled information desks at Kushok Bakula Rinpoche Airport, and the addition of Hindi language support to the official Tathagata website for wider accessibility.
The exposition is set to begin with the grand arrival of the Sacred Relics in Leh on April 29, followed by the celebration of the 2569th Buddha Purnima on May 1 at Jivetsal. Public veneration will take place at Jivetsal from May 2 to May 9, before the relics move to Zanskar on May 11 and 12.
The relics will return to the Dharma Centre in Choglamsar for a final display on May 13 and 14 before being flown back to Delhi. Beyond the religious ceremonies, the event will feature a robust schedule of academic and wellness programs, including an International Conference on Himalayan Buddhism, meditation sessions at the Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre, and exhibitions of ancient Buddhist artifacts at the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies.
Saxena noted that this event serves as a pivotal opportunity to establish Ladakh as a premier global destination for spiritual and wellness tourism.
