J&K Witness Freezing Temperatures as Cold Wave Grips the Region

SRINAGAR, JANUARY 20: Intense cold conditions continue to sweep across the region, with the majority of stations in Kashmir and parts of Jammu recording sub-zero temperatures today.

In the Kashmir Valley, Sonamarg emerged as the coldest spot at -6.2°C, followed closely by Gulmarg and Pulwama, both at -5.5°C. Srinagar recorded a minimum of -3.4°C, while other significant lows were noted in Beerwah Budgam at -4.9°C, Awantipora and Shopian at -4.8°C, and Pahalgam at -4.0°C.

Remaining areas in the valley also shivered under freezing conditions, including Pampore at -4.5°C, Anantnag at -4.5°C, Budgam at -4.3°C, Zethan Rafiabad at -4.1°C, Bandipora at -2.9°C, Qazigund at -2.3°C, Ganderbal at -2.2°C, Baramulla at -2.1°C, Aloosa Bandipora at -1.7°C, and Kupwara at -1.2°C, while Kokernag and Kulgam remained slightly above freezing at 0.6°C and 1.5°C respectively.

In the Jammu region, while the main city and Katra both recorded a minimum of 7.4°C and Jammu Airport stayed at 7.6°C, several other districts faced near-freezing or sub-zero temperatures. Banihal recorded -1.6°C and Bhaderwah reached -1.2°C, while Samba saw a sharp dip to 0.4°C, Rajouri to 0.6°C, and Udhampur to 0.8°C.

Other recorded temperatures in the province included Kathua at 5.2°C, Reasi at 3.8°C, Ramban at 3.1°C, Doda at 2.8°C, Batote at 2.5°C, and Kishtwar at 2.3°C.

Meanwhile, the Ladakh region remains the coldest in the territory, with Leh plummeting to -9.0°C and Hanle recording a bone-chilling minimum of -13.3°C.
