CBI Court Sentences Insurance Officer and Three Others for ₹9.8 Lakh Fraud in Lucknow
LUCKNOW, Jan 17, 2026 – A Special CBI Court in Lucknow has convicted and sentenced N.K. Singhal, an Administrative Officer at New India Assurance Co. Ltd. (NIACL), along with three private individuals—Sanjay Kumar Jain, Neeraj Kapoor, and Brijesh Kanodia—for their involvement in a long-standing insurance fraud case exceeding ₹9.8 lakh.
The verdict follows a detailed investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which revealed that between 1999 and 2002, the group engaged in a criminal conspiracy involving forgery, cheating, and criminal misconduct to siphon funds through fake insurance claims at the NIACL Divisional Office in Kanpur.
The court sentenced Singhal, Jain, and Kapoor to three years of rigorous imprisonment with substantial fines, while Kanodia received a two-year sentence; meanwhile, Pradeep Kumar Dixit was acquitted, and proceedings against two other deceased accused were abated.
This conviction, which also included charges under the Information & Technology Act, 2000, marks a major win for the CBI in its decades-long pursuit of justice against corruption and financial fraud within the public sector.
