Srinagar | January 16, 2026 — The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch Kashmir (CBK) has officially filed a chargesheet against two brothers from Karnataka for their alleged involvement in a high-profile medical seat fraud.
The case, registered under FIR No. 10/2024, involves the cheating of a local complainant who was reportedly defrauded of Rs 13 lakh under the false pretext of securing an MBBS admission for his son. The legal document was submitted before the Court of the Sub-Judge in Baramulla, invoking Sections 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.
The investigation was triggered by a written complaint detailing a sophisticated deception. The victim alleged that a contact at Al-Amin Medical College in Bijapur, Karnataka, introduced him to the primary accused, Aquib Javeed, with the promise of a guaranteed medical seat.
Trusting these assurances, the complainant paid a total of Rs 13 lakh. However, the promised admission to KBN Medical College never materialized, and the accused failed to return the funds, prompting the victim to seek legal intervention from the Crime Branch.
Detailed probes by the Economic Offences Wing revealed that Aquib Javeed worked in tandem with his brother, Mohd Ahtesham Ahmad, both residents of Gulbarga, Karnataka, to orchestrate the scam. The investigation concluded that the duo intentionally misrepresented their ability to secure admissions to deceive the complainant.
As the accused individuals have remained at large, the chargesheet was filed in absentia, and the court has initiated proceedings under Section 512 of the Code of Criminal Procedure to ensure the fugitives are brought to justice.
