SRINAGAR, LADAKH January 14,2026 :-
A severe cold wave intensified across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, with minimum temperatures plummeting sharply across all three regions.
The Kashmir Valley bore the brunt of the freeze, with most stations recording temperatures between -5°C and -7.5°C. Shopian was the coldest recorded place in the region at -7.5°C, closely followed by Pulwama at -7.0°C. Major hubs like Srinagar recorded -5.2°C, while Srinagar Airport and Pahalgam both dipped to -6.0°C.
In the Ladakh region, extreme sub-zero conditions prevailed, with Leh and Hanle both recording a biting -11.4°C. Kargil and Nubra Valley were also in deep freeze at -10.0°C and -10.4°C, respectively.
Conversely, the Jammu region experienced relatively milder but still cold conditions, with most areas hovering just above freezing. Jammu city recorded 4.0°C, while Katra was at 5.5°C. However, higher altitudes in Jammu like Bhaderwah (0.5°C) and Rajouri (-0.6°C) also slipped to near or below freezing point.
The persistent cold spell has significantly disrupted daily life, with dense morning fog and frozen water bodies reported across the affected areas.
