Udhampur Dairy Growth: Mission Director Narinder Singh Bali Reviews HADP Progress and Calls for Circular Economy
UDHAMPUR, JANUARY 13, 2026 — Narinder Singh Bali, the Mission Director for Dairy Development (Animal Husbandry Department), conducted an extensive field assessment in Udhampur to review the progress of the Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP) and the Integrated Dairy Development Scheme (IDDS).
Accompanied by Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Dr. Shivatamri Khajuria, the Director evaluated several key projects, including the establishment of commercial layer farms, free-range poultry units, and satellite heifer units.
During his interaction with local farmers, Bali emphasized that government subsidies are designed as catalysts for long-term financial independence, urging beneficiaries to adopt a “Group Approach” through Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) to maximize their market reach and operational efficiency.
A central theme of the visit was the transition toward a circular economy within the livestock sector. The Mission Director encouraged farmers to integrate biogas production into their operations, using cow dung as a renewable energy source to reduce costs and carbon footprints.
He further advocated for organic farming practices, specifically the conversion of slurry into vermicompost to decrease dependency on chemical fertilizers. To enhance climate resilience, Bali urged the farming community to conduct plantation drives and adopt eco-friendly livestock rearing practices that align with global sustainability goals.
In addition to field visits, the Mission Director inspected the District Veterinary Hospital and the Modern Hatchery to ensure high standards of service delivery. He reviewed the ongoing construction of the hospital’s new clinical block and the modernization of its healthcare facilities, which are critical for supporting the livestock health of the entire Jammu Division.
Expressing satisfaction with the district’s performance, Bali noted that Udhampur’s successful execution of dairy schemes serves as a regional benchmark for generating employment and elevating the socio-economic status of the rural populace.
