JAMMU, December 12, 2026 – The Special Crime Wing of the Crime Branch Jammu has registered a formal case against two individuals for allegedly defrauding a local resident of ₹9,00,000 under the false promise of securing employment.
According to the written complaint, Ajay Gupta and his wife, Anshu Gupta, residents of Sarwal, Jammu, dishonestly induced the victim into paying a substantial sum in exchange for a job offer. Sanjay Parihar, SSP of the Special Crime Wing Jammu, detailed that the complainant transferred ₹3,50,000 into Anshu Gupta’s bank account and ₹2,00,000 into Ajay Gupta’s account, while the remaining ₹3,50,000 was handed over in cash.
Despite receiving the full payment, the accused repeatedly delayed fulfilling their promise, eventually issuing two cheques totaling ₹9,00,000 as security, both of which were dishonored upon presentation at the bank.
Following a preliminary verification that confirmed the accused had misrepresented facts with criminal intent from the outset, the Crime Branch officially filed a case under Sections 318(4) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The investigation has been handed over to Inspector Kali Charan of the Special Crime Wing to further probe the fraudulent activities. In light of this incident, the SSP has issued a public appeal urging citizens to remain vigilant and cautious of fraudsters who use tempting employment offers to solicit money, emphasizing the importance of verifying such claims before making any financial commitments.
