According to official reports, a massive fire broke out in a barrack at the BSF camp located in the Madar area, quickly engulfing and completely gutting the wooden structure. The victim, identified as Constable Ramesh Kumar, a resident of Jalandhar, Punjab, was trapped inside the building as the flames spread rapidly.

Despite emergency efforts, Kumar could not be rescued and was charred to death within the barrack.Following the containment of the blaze, the constable’s body was recovered and shifted to the District Hospital Bandipora for necessary medico-legal formalities.

Authorities confirmed that after the completion of these procedures, his mortal remains will be sent to his native village in Punjab with full honors. While the exact cause of the fire is currently under investigation, local authorities have taken formal cognizance of the incident to determine if a short circuit or heating equipment led to the blaze.

This loss comes as a somber reminder of the challenging conditions faced by security forces stationed in the high-altitude regions of Kashmir during the peak of winter.
