SHOPIAN, JANUARY 11, 2026 — In an intensified crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Shopian Police have booked a habitual drug peddler under the stringent Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act, 1988.
The accused, identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Ganaie of Itoo Mohalla, Zainapora, was detained following a detailed dossier submitted by the police, which documented his persistent involvement in the illegal drug trade.
Upon the issuance of a detention order by the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, Ganaie was shifted to the Central Jail Kot Bhalwal in Jammu.This preventive action underscores the J&K Police’s “zero-tolerance” policy toward the drug menace, which is viewed as a grave threat to public health and the future of the region’s youth.
Law enforcement officials stated that the detention was necessary to maintain public peace and dismantle local trafficking networks that target vulnerable populations.
The Shopian Police have reiterated their commitment to sustaining these operations and have urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities by reporting any suspicious activities or drug-related crimes in their neighborhoods.
