Mughal Road Reopens for Traffic: Authorities Issue Strict Timings and Safety Guidelines
POONCH, Jan 11 (2026) — The historic Mughal Road, which serves as a vital link between the Poonch-Rajouri districts and the Kashmir Valley, has been reopened for vehicular movement following a seven-day closure.
The high-altitude thoroughfare was previously shut down due to heavy snowfall and adverse weather conditions, necessitating extensive road clearance operations.
Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic Rural, Farooq Qaisar, confirmed that the route is now functional but emphasized that safety remains the top priority for all commuters.
To mitigate risks associated with icy surfaces and high-altitude weather shifts, authorities have implemented a restricted traffic schedule.
Movement on the Mughal Road will be strictly regulated and permitted only during a specific four-hour window, between 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM daily.
Traffic officials have stated that this schedule will be rigorously enforced at various checkposts to ensure that no vehicles are stranded in vulnerable stretches during the freezing late-afternoon or night hours.
SSP Qaisar has urged drivers to exercise extreme caution and maintain strict lane discipline while navigating the mountainous terrain. Travelers are advised to avoid non-essential journeys and to stay updated through official traffic advisories, as road conditions remain sensitive to temperature fluctuations.
Traffic personnel have been deployed along the route to monitor the flow of vehicles and assist commuters, with officials warning that regulations may be adjusted at short notice in the interest of public safety.
