DLSA Kupwara Launches Intensive Door-to-Door Campaign to Achieve “Child Marriage Free” District
KUPWARA, January 9, 2026 — In a major step toward eradicating early marriages, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Kupwara has initiated an expansive door-to-door sensitization campaign under the national “Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat” (Child Marriage Free India) initiative.
Executed as part of a strategic 100-Day Action Plan, the campaign aims for 100% household saturation across every ward and village in the district. Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) are serving as nodal coordinators on the ground, working in close synchronization with teachers, ASHA workers, and Anganwadi staff to identify vulnerable families and track risk indicators for adolescent girls.
Supported by a multi-departmental framework involving the Deputy Commissioner, SSPs of Kupwara and Handwara, and the Chief Education and Medical Officers, the drive focuses on both prevention and education.
During household visits, teams are educating citizens on the legal penalties under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, and the long-term physical and psychological damage caused by early marriage.
Residents are being provided with direct access to emergency intervention tools, including Childline 1098 and the NALSA Legal Aid Helpline 15100, ensuring a robust reporting mechanism is in place to maintain a vigilant, child-safe community.
