UDHAMPUR, December 30: The Department of Dogri at Government College for Women (GCW) Udhampur, under the aegis of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), celebrated Dogri Manyta Diwas with immense cultural fervor.
Organized under the guidance of Principal Nalani Pathania, the event commemorated the historic inclusion of the Dogri language into the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. The celebration served as a platform to honor the linguistic identity of the region and encourage the younger generation to embrace their mother tongue.
The program featured an insightful keynote lecture by Sushma Kumari, Head of the Department of Dogri, who explored the origin and historical evolution of the language. She emphasized that Dogri is the true reflection of the community’s cultural and historical identity, noting that language and culture are deeply intertwined. Kumari urged collective efforts to safeguard the mother tongue, stressing that the survival and growth of the Dogri language are essential for preserving the rich legacy of the Dogra people for future generations.
Adding to the vibrant atmosphere, students participated enthusiastically by reciting traditional poetry and performing patriotic and folk songs in Dogri.
The event was attended by several prominent faculty members, including Anita (HOD Botany), Om Prakash (HOD Sanskrit), Swaran (HOD Political Science), and Santosh Kumari (Department of Hindi). The celebration concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Shama Rani of the Dogri Department, who expressed gratitude to the college leadership and students for making the recognition day a meaningful success in fostering linguistic pride.
