Pulwama VPN Ban: Police Issue Strict Advisory on Usage Restrictions

PULWAMA, December 30: In a major move to bolster regional security, the Pulwama Police has officially notified the general public regarding a temporary restriction on Virtual Private Network (VPN) services across the district.

This directive follows formal orders issued by the District Magistrate of Pulwama, mandating an immediate halt to the use of such services to mitigate potential security risks. The authorities clarified that this measure is a preventive step aimed at ensuring public safety, enhancing cyber security, and maintaining law and order within the district.

Officials expressed concerns that the misuse of VPNs—which encrypt data and mask IP addresses—could hinder lawful monitoring by security agencies and provide a loophole for activities that compromise the integrity of digital governance. By restricting these services, the administration intends to prevent the dissemination of inflammatory content and safeguard sensitive information from potential cyber threats.

Residents of Pulwama are urged to strictly adhere to these guidelines and refrain from using VPN applications on any digital devices, including smartphones and computers, during the restriction period.

The police have warned that any violation of this order will be met with strict legal action under the relevant provisions of the law, including the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The department has sought the full cooperation of the public to uphold peace and protect the collective interest of the community.
