BUDGAM, JULY 21 — District Administration Budgam and Police have achieved major breakthroughs under the 100-Day Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, stepping up enforcement actions and expanding rehabilitation efforts to eradicate drug abuse across the region. Initiated on April 11 by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the multi-agency crackdown resulted in the arrest of 87 drug peddlers, the detention of nine habitual offenders under the PIT-NDPS Act, and the filing of 89 NDPS Act cases.
To dismantle drug supply networks, officials attached six movable and immovable properties worth Rs 1.50 crore, demolished six illegal structures, and destroyed illicit poppy and cannabis crops spanning over 56 kanals of land.Beyond direct field operations, stringently targeted administrative penalties were imposed across sectors. Officials recommended flagging 136 government identity profiles, canceling two passports, suspending an arms license and a driving license, and blacklisting or suspending 20 vehicle registrations.
Enforcement drives against pharmaceutical outlets led to the suspension of 47 pharmacy licenses, the sealing of 30 unlicensed medical shops, the cancellation of three drug licenses, and four FIRs lodged under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Surveillance was also strengthened with nearly 100 CCTV cameras deployed at strategic hotspots through joint efforts of the civil administration and police.
Community involvement formed a vital part of the strategy, engaging residents through nearly one million awareness activities including seminars, competitions, debates, clean-up drives, sports tournaments, and a Pad Yatra on May 5 across local panchayats, youth clubs, and women’s groups. Deputy Commissioner Athar Aamir Khan affirmed that anti-drug measures will proceed with unyielding resolve, encouraging active participation from families, schools, and social leaders to keep the district drug-free.
Alongside enforcement and public outreach, the local Drug De-addiction Centre provided outpatient and inpatient treatment to 48 individuals, registered 93 patients at the Addiction Treatment Facility, and helped 12 recovered individuals regain independence through self-employment initiatives.
