GANDERBAL, July 28 — At least 32 Amarnath Yatra pilgrims were injured on Tuesday after their bus lost control and overturned near the S-Mode stretch at Hariganiwan in the Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
The vehicle, bearing registration number AR11D/5655, was heading toward Srinagar along a winding mountainous road when it skidded off the route and rolled into a roadside gorge.
A massive joint rescue operation was swiftly launched by personnel from the Indian Army, CRPF 118 Battalion, ITBP, Assam Rifles, Jammu and Kashmir Police led by the Gund station house officer, health officials, and local volunteers.
Rescuers successfully evacuated all passengers from the site and initially brought the injured pilgrims to SDH Kangan. Officials subsequently referred 31 of the injured pilgrims to SKIMS Srinagar for advanced medical treatment, where hospital authorities are currently monitoring their condition.
Police have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
