World’s Highest Frozen Lake Marathon 2026: Indian Army Dominates Extreme Endurance Race at Pangong Tso

LEH FEB 27 :- The frozen expanse of Pangong Tso became the ultimate arena for human grit on February 27, 2026, as the Fire and Fury Corps successfully supported the 4th edition of the Pangong Frozen Lake Marathon. Situated at an staggering altitude of approximately 14,000 feet, the event solidified its reputation as the world’s highest frozen lake race. Over 450 elite runners braved the “unforgiving” elements, battling razor-thin air, sub-zero temperatures, and a treacherous icy track. The competition, which featured categories ranging from a 5 km sprint to a grueling 42 km full marathon, pushed the limits of physical and mental endurance in one of the planet’s most hostile environments.

The Ladakh Scouts emerged as the undisputed champions of the day, sweeping the podiums across multiple major categories. In the premier 42 km Full Marathon, Naik Tsering Nurboo secured first place, followed by Agniveer Tsering Stobgais and Rifleman Kadim Hussain. The 21 km Half Marathon saw a stellar performance by Rifleman Tsetan Namgial, who took the top spot, while Agniveer Mehboob Ali led the pack in the 10 km event. The “Top Gun” runners of the Forever in Operations Division also earned high praise for their collective dominance in the shorter 5 km and 10 km circuits, showcasing the elite fitness levels maintained by the Indian Army’s mountain units.

Supported steadfastly by the Trishul Division, this marathon is more than just a race; it is a testament to the Indian Army’s commitment to fostering a culture of high-altitude fitness and promoting winter sports in the Ladakh region. By conquering the “unforgiving” icy terrain of Pangong Tso, these soldiers and civilian participants have once again proven that no terrain is too tough for the human spirit. The GOC, Fire and Fury Corps, and all ranks extended their heartfelt congratulations to the winners, reaffirming Ladakh’s position as a premier global destination for extreme adventure sports.
