World Wetlands Day 2026: Jammu Students Tour Mansar Lake for Conservation Awareness

JAMMU, February 03, 2026 – To commemorate World Wetlands Day 2026, the Department of Ecology, Environment & Remote Sensing (EIACP) J&K Hub organized a comprehensive awareness and outreach programme at Mansar Lake, aligning with the global theme “Wetlands and traditional knowledge: Celebrating cultural heritage” and the Mission LiFE initiative.

Under the supervision of Coordinator Rajan Singh, students from the Department of Environmental Sciences at Government College for Women Parade, led by HOD Harmanmeet Kour and Neha, participated in an educational field visit to this vital Ramsar site.

The event featured an awareness rally where participants campaigned against plastic pollution and its detrimental impact on biodiversity, followed by a cleanliness drive that successfully removed approximately 70 kilograms of plastic waste from the lake’s periphery.

During the session, Block Development Officer Yashbeer Singh and EIACP Programme Officer Kirti Bhatt briefed the nearly 60 participants on the ecological importance, conservation challenges, and cultural heritage of Mansar Lake, emphasizing the critical role of community involvement in maintaining ecological balance.

Supported by Range Officer Anil Sharma and the NMSHE Project staff, this impactful initiative reinforced responsible environmental behavior and celebrated the spiritual and sustainable management practices essential for protecting Jammu’s precious wetland ecosystems.
