War Against Drugs: Shopian Police Arrest Peddler with 5kg of Cannabis in Heerpora
Shopian January 16, 2026 — In a major breakthrough under its ongoing “War Against Drugs,” the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Shopian successfully apprehended a drug peddler and seized a significant quantity of narcotics today.
During a routine checkpoint operation (Naka checking) at Dachnoo Heerpora, a vigilant police team from the Heerpora Police Station intercepted a man acting suspiciously.
A thorough search of the individual led to the recovery of approximately 5 kilograms of cannabis (Charas-like substance), which was immediately confiscated by the authorities.The arrested individual has been identified as Aslam Kalas, a resident of Devpora.
Following the recovery, a formal case has been registered under FIR No. 06/2026 at Police Station Heerpora, invoking relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Investigating officers have already launched a deep-dive probe to trace the “forward and backward linkages” of the accused, aiming to dismantle the broader supply chain and unearth the network responsible for the distribution of illegal substances in the region.
