Jammu 11 October :-Jammu and Kashmir BJP spokesperson and former Vice Chairman, Balbir Ram Rattan, has said that the ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi holds special importance for Jammu and Kashmir. He stated that this campaign is not only a vital step towards a self-reliant India but also has the potential to breathe new life into the Union Territory’s traditional crafts, handicrafts, and small-scale industries.
Balbir Ram Rattan highlighted that the land of Jammu and Kashmir has, for centuries, been a witness to a rich cultural heritage and traditional craftsmanship. Whether it is the Kani and Pashmina shawls of Kashmir, carpet weaving, Basohli paintings, papier-mâché art, or the wooden handicrafts of the Jammu region—these are all renowned not only across India but internationally as well. He noted that these products already have a distinct identity, and the ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign can help provide them with an even larger market.
He emphasized the need to prioritize local products today and take concrete steps toward self-reliance. This will not only boost local industries but also create new employment opportunities for the youth. Balbir mentioned that in recent years, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the central government has launched several schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, Startup India, and Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP)—all of which are strengthening small and medium-scale enterprises.
Balbir Ram Rattan appealed to the public to give preference to local products during the festive season and support local artisans, women, and small entrepreneurs. He said that choosing local products is not just an economic decision but also a cultural and social responsibility.
Balbir expressed confidence that the spirit of ‘Vocal for Local’ will lead Jammu and Kashmir towards self-reliance and empower local artisans and entrepreneurs.
He was discussing the importance of the ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign in the context of Jammu and Kashmir with some key BJP workers.
