Speaking at the Vishesh Shaheedi Samagam ‘Safar-E-Shahadat’ organized by the All Jammu Kashmir Sikh Coordination Committee at Gurdwara Digiana Ashram, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized that the teachings of the Sikh Gurus form the foundational strength of India’s inclusive development. The Lieutenant Governor highlighted the significant strides made under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to preserve and promote Sikh heritage. He noted historic milestones such as the opening of the Sri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, the rejuvenation of the Jallianwala Bagh memorial, and the granting of FCRA approval to Sri Harmandir Sahib, which has allowed the global Sangat to contribute to the holy shrine.
LG Sinha also underscored the administration’s commitment to justice, mentioning the resolution of cases related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. He praised the Sikh community’s historical role in nation-building and its tireless efforts to eliminate social discrimination, urging everyone to resolve toward building a “Viksit Bharat” rooted in universal brotherhood.
During the event, the Lieutenant Governor felicitated a newly married Sikh couple whose marriage was registered under the Anand Marriage Act in the Union Territory, marking a significant step in fulfilling community aspirations. Responding to a memorandum from S. Ajit Singh, Chairman of the All Jammu Kashmir Sikh Coordination Committee, regarding the renaming of the day to “Sahibzade Shahadat Diwas,” LG Sinha assured that the demand would be forwarded to the Government of India for consideration. The ceremony was attended by prominent leaders, including MLA Dr. Narinder Singh Raina and senior civil and police officials, all of whom joined in honoring the martyrdom of Baba Moti Ram Mehra and the indomitable spirit of the Sikh faith.
