Varanasi Cantonment Transforms Landfill into Landmark with New 5-Ton Integrated Sanitation Park

VARANASI MARCH 18, 2026 — In a major boost to the Swachh Bharat mission, a state-of-the-art 5-ton Integrated Sanitation Park was officially inaugurated at Varanasi Cantonment, successfully converting a previously neglected 1.4-acre landfill into a model of sustainable waste management.

The solar-powered facility, inaugurated by Amit Singh Sohal, GOC of Purva UP & MP Sub Area, features comprehensive infrastructure for processing both dry and wet waste, including composting and upcycling units.

Beyond waste treatment, the complex incorporates eco-friendly elements such as rainwater harvesting, a dedicated weighbridge, and specialized washing and parking zones for waste collection vehicles.

Developed as a CSR initiative by the SBI Foundation in collaboration with the Feedback Foundation, the park also prioritizes social welfare by providing dedicated training spaces and onsite accommodation for Safai Sathis.

This transformation highlights the Indian Army’s unwavering commitment to environmental responsibility and its proactive role in fostering cleaner, greener communities through innovative infrastructure.
