Unregistered Pony Handler Booked by Reasi Police Amid Chaitra Navratra Rush in Katra​

KATRA, REASI, March 21, 2026 — As part of an intensified security and regulatory drive during the holy Chaitra Navratra festival, the Reasi District Police has booked an unregistered pony handler for operating illegally.

Amidst the heavy influx of pilgrims trekking to the Vaishno Devi shrine, authorities intercepted one Rakesh Kumar, son of Shankar Chand and resident of Kulter, Panchari, who was providing pony services without the mandatory registration card.

Operating without valid documentation is a direct violation of the safety and management protocols established for the pilgrimage. Consequently, FIR No. 78/2026 has been registered at Police Station Katra under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

​The enforcement operation was executed by the IC PP Banganga and SHO Katra, Inspector Ranjeet Singh Rao, under the direct supervision of SDPO Katra, Dr. Bhishm Dubey (JKPS), and SP Katra, Vipan Chandran (JKPS). Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Reasi, Paramvir Singh (JKPS), emphasized that these verification drives are critical for maintaining order and ensuring the security of the thousands of devotees currently visiting Katra.

The SSP reiterated that the police department remains committed to strict compliance with all regulatory guidelines, and any individual found flouting the rules in high-footfall areas will face firm legal action. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
