Unjust Sacrifice”: Mehbooba Mufti Slams PSA Detention of Doda MLA, Calls it a Diversion Tactic

“Srinagar 10 September :- Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president and former Chief Minister J&K Mehbooba Mufti has vehemently condemned the administration’s decision to book Doda MLA Mehraj Malik under the Public Safety Act (PSA), labeling it an “unjust sacrifice” made to divert attention from the recent Hazratbal Shrine incident.

Addressing Press Conference here today Mehbooba Mufti asserted that detaining a sitting legislator under the harsh law starkly illustrates the deteriorating condition of law and order in Jammu and Kashmir. She issued a direct appeal to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, demanding the immediate revocation of the PSA, the quashing of the related FIR, and the release of Malik.

PDP President argued that the actions are a direct result of suppressing democratic expression. “When you curb people’s freedom of expression, such situations are created,” she stated, urging the LG to assess the actual ground reality in Doda.

While conceding that the MLA might have used harsh or abusive language, the PDP chief insisted the response was grossly disproportionate. “Maybe he used a tongue twister or some abusive language, but imposing PSA on an MLA for that reason shows where the law stands,” she said, firmly standing by her claim that the detention is a strategic move to shift public focus.
