Udhampur’s War on Drugs: Narcotics Worth ₹4.88 Cr Seized and Assets Worth ₹3.10 Cr Frozen in Q1 2026
UDHAMPUR, April 1, 2026 — Executing a high-intensity crackdown under the national Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan, the Udhampur District Police has dismantled several narcotics networks during the first quarter of 2026.
Between January and March, law enforcement agencies neutralized local and transit drug syndicates, resulting in the arrest of 85 individuals, including 83 booked under the NDPS Act and two detained under the stringent PIT-NDPS Act.
This three-month offensive saw the registration of 61 fresh FIRs and a landmark conviction, signaling a shift toward more aggressive professional investigation and successful legal prosecution in the region’s fight against substance abuse.
The scale of the recovery highlights the lucrative yet lethal nature of the illicit trade, with high-grade contraband valued at ₹4.88 crore pulled off the streets. This includes 698 grams of premium heroin (valued at ₹4.88 crore) and 16.95 kilograms of poppy straw (valued at ₹51,000).
To cripple the logistics of these cartels, police seized 31 vehicles used for smuggling and moved to cancel 10 Registration Certificates and 10 Driving Licenses, ensuring that those involved are permanently grounded. In a modern shift toward “financial choking” of drug lords, Udhampur Police achieved a major breakthrough by attaching properties linked to seven NDPS cases, totaling a staggering ₹3.10 crore in frozen assets.
The attached wealth includes four residential houses and associated land, four vehicles, and various high-end electronic gadgets used in the commission of crimes.
Senior officials stated that this strategy of hitting the financial foundations of the drug trade, combined with a zero-tolerance field approach, remains the cornerstone of their mission to make Udhampur a drug-free district.
