UDHAMPUR, Feb 10, 2026 — In a major crackdown on illegal livestock trade, the Udhampur Police have attached the moveable property of a notorious habitual bovine smuggler under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Following a court order from the Hon’ble Court of Udhampur, authorities seized a TATA Yodha 1700 Pick-Up vehicle, valued at approximately ₹10 lakhs, belonging to Younis Mohd, a resident of Darsoo, District Udhampur.
The action marks a significant step by the district police to dismantle the financial networks of those involved in the illegal transport of animals. The seizure stems from FIR No. 001/2026, registered at the Panchari Police Station under Section 223 of the BNS and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act.
A comprehensive investigation conducted by the Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) of PS Panchari delved into the suspect’s criminal history and financial dealings. The inquiry revealed that the vehicle, registered as JK14H-8621, was allegedly acquired through “proceeds of crime”—specifically, money generated from a series of unlawful smuggling activities.
Exercising the powers granted under Section 107(5) of the BNSS, the police have provisionally attached the vehicle, sending a clear message that illegal gains will not be tolerated. Udhampur Police have reiterated their commitment to using modern legal frameworks to target the assets of repeat offenders, ensuring that criminal enterprises are hit both operationally and financially.
This move is part of a broader campaign to curb bovine smuggling and uphold the Rule of Law across the District.
