UDHAMPUR, February 02, 2026: Throughout the month of January 2026, the District Police Udhampur maintained a sustained and aggressive campaign to eradicate bovine smuggling within the region.
This focused enforcement drive resulted in the registration of 14 separate criminal cases and the successful rescue of 98 bovines from various illegal transportation attempts. As part of these comprehensive operations, police authorities arrested 17 individuals; while 16 suspects were apprehended directly in connection with smuggling cases, one notorious offender was booked under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) to deter future criminal activity.
In addition to the arrests and rescues, the Udhampur Police successfully intercepted and seized nine vehicles that were being utilized for the illicit transport of livestock. Reaffirming their stance of zero tolerance toward animal smuggling, the District Police stated that these measures are part of a broader strategy to uphold the law and protect animal welfare.
Authorities have urged the general public to remain vigilant and continue sharing actionable information with the police to help completely curb this illegal trade across the district.
