UDHAMPUR, Jan 2, 2026 — Executing a high-intensity enforcement strategy throughout 2025, the Udhampur Police have successfully dismantled several major bovine smuggling networks across the district.
Over the course of the year, law enforcement registered 188 criminal cases, leading to the apprehension of 220 individuals. Among those detained were 212 direct suspects and eight notorious habitual offenders who were booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
This sustained crackdown underscores the department’s “zero-tolerance” policy toward illegal animal transport and highlights a significant shift toward more aggressive legal and financial repercussions for violators.
The scale of the operation is reflected in the recovery of 1,189 bovines and the impounding of 144 vehicles utilized for smuggling activities. To further cripple these illegal operations, authorities suspended or canceled 48 critical documents, including 28 vehicle registration certificates and 20 driving licenses.
On the judicial front, the police secured 122 convictions, proving the efficacy of their investigative and prosecution teams. In a landmark financial blow to the syndicates, the Udhampur Police also attached 11 vehicles valued at approximately ₹1.50 crore, effectively targeting the economic foundation of the smuggling trade to deter future criminal enterprise.
