UDHAMPUR, Feb 05, 2026 – In a significant breakthrough against the drug menace in the region, the Udhampur Police successfully apprehended two inter-district drug peddlers and recovered a quantity of heroin during a routine operation at Tikri.
A police team stationed at the Tikri Police Post intercepted a Srinagar-bound Innova taxi (Registration No. JK01AX-8441) arriving from Jammu. Upon a detailed inspection of the vehicle and its occupants, security forces recovered 15.19 grams of heroin from the possession of the two individuals on board.
The accused have been identified as the driver, Muheeb Maqbool Mir, son of Mohd. Maqbool Mir, resident of Rangpora, Ellahi Bagh, Srinagar, and his co-passenger, Aijaz Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Rashid Dar, resident of Gulabh Bagh, Srinagar. Following their failure to provide a legitimate explanation for the contraband, both men were immediately taken into custody.
The Udhampur Police have registered a formal case under FIR No. 28/2026 involving sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act at the Rehambal Police Station.
A comprehensive investigation is currently underway to trace the forward and backward linkages of this drug supply chain.
