UDHAMPUR, January 11, 2026 :-In a major crackdown on narcotics smuggling, the Udhampur Police successfully intercepted an inter-district drug trafficking attempt at a routine checkpoint in Chenani.
During a specialized traffic operation at the Nakka Motor Shed on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, a police team led by the SHO of Chenani Police Station flagged down a Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R (JK01AU-9625) traveling toward Srinagar.
Upon inspection, the driver, identified as Shakeel Ahmad Sofi, and two passengers, Noor Mohd Ganie and Junaid Fayaz—all residents of Srinagar—were subjected to a personal search. The search led to the discovery of 8.29 grams of heroin concealed among the three suspects.
Authorities immediately took the individuals into custody and seized the vehicle used in the commission of the crime. Following the recovery, FIR No. 03/2026 under Sections 8, 21, and 22 of the NDPS Act was registered at the Chenani Police Station.
