Udhampur Police Bust Inter-District Drug Module; Smuggler Arrested with Heroin in Chenani

CHENANI, UDHAMPUR — March 15, 2026 — In a major crackdown on narcotics smuggling, the Udhampur Police successfully intercepted an inter-district drug module and apprehended a peddler with a significant quantity of heroin. During a routine Naka checking operation at the motor shed in Chenani, a police team led by the SHO intercepted a truck (registration number JK05C-8263) traveling from Jammu toward Srinagar.

Upon inspecting the vehicle, security forces identified the occupant as Jahangeer Ahmed Bhat, a resident of Panzgram, Kupwara. A subsequent personal search led to the recovery of 59.85 grams of heroin from his possession.The accused failed to provide any legal justification for carrying the contraband, leading to his immediate arrest.

Following the recovery, the Chenani Police Station registered Case FIR No. 42/2026 under Sections 8, 21, and 22 of the NDPS Act.

Authorities have initiated a formal investigation to trace the forward and backward linkages of this drug syndicate, marking another step in the “War on Drugs” within the Jammu and Kashmir region.
