UDHAMPUR, January 17, 2026 — District Police Udhampur have initiated legal action against a woman for violating specific prohibitory orders issued by the District Magistrate regarding the use of Virtual Private Network (VPN) services.
The accused, identified as Meena Sharma, a resident of Palnoo in the Majalta area of Udhampur district, was booked after police verification confirmed that her mobile number was actively using VPN services.
This act was found to be in direct contravention of the District Magistrate’s Order (No. DMU/JC/1872), which was issued earlier this month to prohibit such digital services within the district’s jurisdiction.
Following the discovery, an FIR has been registered at the Majalta Police Station under Section 223(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for the violation of official orders. Authorities have confirmed that a detailed investigation into the matter is currently underway.
In light of this case, the Udhampur police have issued a public advisory urging all citizens to refrain from using VPNs and other prohibited applications on their mobile devices to ensure compliance with local security and administrative regulations.
