Udhampur Police Arrest Inter-District Drug Peddler; Heroin Seized in Rehambal Raid

UDHAMPUR, March 20, 2026 – In a significant breakthrough against the narcotics trade, the Udhampur Police successfully apprehended an inter-district drug peddler during a routine patrol in the Rehambal area today.

The operation, conducted by a specialized patrolling team from the Rehambal Police Station, led to the arrest of an individual identified as Varun Panday, son of Rajinder Kumar, a resident of the New Plot area in Janipur, Jammu.

The arrest is seen as part of an ongoing intensified crackdown on drug trafficking networks operating across district boundaries.During a meticulous personal search of the suspect, police officers recovered 15.60 grams of heroin, which was found concealed inside a plastic pouch hidden in the right pocket of his trousers.

The contraband was seized on the spot, and the accused was immediately taken into custody.

Following the recovery, the Rehambal Police registered a formal case under FIR No. 56/2026, invoking Sections 8, 21, and 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused may be part of a larger supply chain transporting illicit substances between Jammu and Udhampur districts.

Police officials have stated that a deeper probe is currently underway to identify the source of the narcotics and any potential accomplices involved in the distribution network.
