UDHAMPUR, January 5, 2026: Continuing its crackdown on the drug menace, the Udhampur Police successfully apprehended a suspected drug peddler and recovered a quantity of heroin during a routine check at Bansa Morh, Tikri.
The arrest occurred when a police naka party stationed at the checkpoint noticed an individual traveling on foot from the Katra side toward Tikri. Upon spotting the police presence, the suspect attempted to flee the scene but was quickly intercepted and detained by the alert officers on duty.
The apprehended individual has been identified as Mohd. Arif, also known as Jugnu, son of Mohd. Gulsher and a resident of Dhanori, Udhampur. A subsequent personal search of the suspect led to the discovery of 5.23 grams of a substance confirmed to be heroin.
Following the recovery, the Rehambal Police Station registered FIR No. 04/2026 under Sections 8, 21, and 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The accused is currently in police custody, and a detailed investigation is underway to determine the source of the contraband and any potential links to wider drug trafficking networks in the region.
