UDHAMPUR, Jan 2, 2026 :- In a major breakthrough for the “Drug-Free Udhampur” initiative, the district police successfully secured 98 convictions across 77 cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act throughout 2025. This milestone reflects a year of rigorous enforcement and professional investigation, resulting in the sentencing of 29 inter-state and 15 inter-district drug traffickers.
By targeting high-level peddlers moving between state lines, the Udhampur Police have struck a significant blow to the organized networks that facilitate the flow of contraband through the region. The successful prosecutions followed a series of strategic operations, including high-frequency highway interceptions, specialized “naka” checkpoints, and sustained anti-narcotics drives conducted by the Udhampur, Rehambal, Chenani, Ramnagar, and Majalta police stations. Large quantities of poppy straw, charas, heroin, and cannabis were seized during these operations.
Each case was meticulously documented and fast-tracked through the judicial system, with a strong emphasis on timely charge-sheeting and expert coordination between investigating officers and prosecution teams.
This high conviction rate serves as a powerful deterrent, reaffirming the department’s “People First” commitment to safeguarding the district’s youth and ensuring a safer, healthier community for all residents in 2026.
