Udhampur Marks 77th Republic Day with Grand Parade and Major Developmental Milestones
UDHAMPUR, January 26, 2026 – The 77th Republic Day was celebrated with great splendor at Government PG Degree College Boys, where District Development Council (DDC) Chairperson Lal Chand unfurled the National Flag.
Accompanied by DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range Sarah Rizvi, Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai, and SSP Amod Ashok Nagpure, the Chairperson took the salute at an impressive march-past. The parade featured 31 disciplined contingents from the District Police, Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA), Volunteer Home Guards, NCC, and the Police Band.
The event saw a massive turnout, including senior officers from the Army, BSF, CRPF, and Air Force, alongside prominent citizens, all gathered to honor India’s democratic heritage.
In his keynote address, Lal Chand emphasized that Republic Day is a sacred occasion to remember the sacrifices of freedom fighters and the implementation of the Constitution in 1950, which granted fundamental rights to every citizen. He highlighted that under the current administration, Udhampur is emerging as a leader in regional growth.
Key infrastructure achievements noted included the NH-244 Chenani–Sudh Mahadev project, which is 94 percent complete and poised to boost religious tourism. Furthermore, the district has seen massive progress in rural connectivity under PMGSY, with over 3,000 kilometers of roads connecting 358 habitations, and a revolution in healthcare with the establishment of Government Medical College Udhampur.The Chairperson also shared impressive statistics regarding social welfare and economic support. Under PM-KISAN, over 54,000 farmers in Udhampur have received more than ₹229 crore in assistance, while Mission YUVA has successfully approved over 1,500 cases to empower local youth.
Following the formal address, the audience was enthralled by a scintillating cultural program performed by local students and artists, showcasing the rich heritage of Jammu and Kashmir.
Similar celebrations were held with equal fervor at the sub-divisional level in Ramnagar and across all Tehsils, reaffirming a collective commitment to national unity and prosperity.
