NEW DELHI, February 13, 2026 – Seeking urgent intervention for the residents of Jammu & Kashmir’s frontier zones, senior leader Pawan Khajuria met with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in the national capital to advocate for the rights of border families.
The primary focus of the meeting centered on the pending land compensation cases in Udhampur district, where Khajuria highlighted that many families have yet to receive payments for land transferred to the Army. He further pushed for a hike in rental rates for private lands currently under military occupation, noting that the combination of delayed payments and stagnant rates has triggered significant socio-economic distress among the local population.
Beyond financial relief, Khajuria raised critical concerns regarding the installation of Army gates within certain villages, which have reportedly hampered civilian movement. He informed the Defence Minister that these restrictions are obstructing access to essential services like healthcare and education, creating life-threatening delays during nighttime medical emergencies.
Appealing for a balance between national security and civilian welfare, Khajuria urged the Ministry to expedite all pending cases. In response, Rajnath Singh assured that the issues would be thoroughly examined by the appropriate authorities, reaffirming the Central Government’s priority to resolve the grievances of border residents through swift and practical action.
