Udhampur Drug Bust: Police Apprehend Peddler with Heroin at Phalata Naka
UDHAMPUR**; 12 April 2026:- In a significant move against narcotics trafficking, the Udhampur Police successfully apprehended a drug peddler and seized a quantity of heroin during a routine security check at the Phalata Naka.
A dedicated police team from PS Rehambal, while performing traffic and security duties, intercepted a Tavera vehicle (registration number JK02AS-2137) traveling from Jammu toward Udhampur. Upon inspecting the vehicle, officers identified the driver as Ajaz Ahmad Sheikh of Kupwara and his passenger as Umar Riyaz Ganie, a resident of Pampore, Pulwama.
A targeted personal search of the passenger, Umar Riyaz Ganie, led to the discovery of a transparent packet containing approximately 4.70 grams of heroin. Following the recovery, the police immediately arrested the accused and seized the vehicle involved in the transport of the illicit substance.
A formal case has been registered under FIR No. 74/2026 at PS Rehambal, invoking Sections 8, 21, and 22 of the NDPS Act. Authorities have confirmed that a thorough investigation is currently underway to trace further links associated with this drug peddling attempt.
