Udhampur CEO Bans Teacher Mobile Phone Use Inside Classrooms to Protect Academic Environment

UDHAMPUR, March 10, 2026 — In a decisive move to prioritize student learning and maintain classroom decorum, the Office of the Chief Education Officer (CEO) of Udhampur has officially imposed a strict ban on the use of mobile phones by teachers during instructional hours.

The directive, issued via a formal circular , follows observations that personal device usage among staff was “adversely affecting” the teaching-learning process and creating unnecessary disturbances within the school’s academic atmosphere. By curbing these digital distractions, the administration aims to ensure that the focus remains entirely on student engagement and the delivery of quality education.

Under the new regulations, the CEO has mandated that all Principals, Headmasters, and Zonal Education Officers (ZEOs) within the district take immediate responsibility for enforcing the ban. These administrators are tasked with strictly monitoring their respective institutions, clusters, and zones to ensure that no teacher uses a mobile phone inside a classroom while teaching is in progress. The circular emphasizes that compliance is non-negotiable, warning that any violations of these instructions will be viewed with extreme seriousness and will result in disciplinary action “as per rules.”

This policy reflects a growing commitment by the Jammu and Kashmir UT administration to standardize professional conduct and eliminate avoidable interruptions in the public schooling system.

Local authorities believe that by removing smartphones from the classroom equation, teachers will be better equipped to foster a more disciplined and productive environment for their students.
