Udhampur Bolsters Security Grid on Jammu-Srinagar Highway to Ensure Safe New Year Festivities

Udhampur 30 December :- To ensure a seamless and secure transition into the New Year, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have implemented a comprehensive security blanket across the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) within the Udhampur district. Recognizing the highway as a vital artery for both local commuters and tourists, authorities have deployed intensified surveillance measures and established specialized nakas (checkpoints) at strategic locations. A primary focus of this operation is centered at the Rehmbal Check Naka, where officers are conducting rigorous vehicle inspections to prevent the transport of illicit goods and to monitor the flow of traffic heading toward the valley’s scenic highlands.

The heightened vigilance is largely driven by the massive influx of visitors expected at popular winter destinations like Patnitop. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Headquarters Udhampur, Prehlad Sharma, emphasized that the security strategy is a multi-agency effort, involving seamless coordination between the District Police, CRPF, Indian Army, and ITBP. Beyond counter-terror and general security protocols, the initiative places a heavy emphasis on road safety. Law enforcement teams are actively engaging in public awareness campaigns to deter hazardous behaviors such as stunting, over-speeding, and drink-driving, which often see an uptick during holiday celebrations.

In a direct appeal to the public, DySP Sharma urged revellers to celebrate responsibly and adhere strictly to safety guidelines. Travelers are cautioned against carrying any narcotic substances or engaging in activities that could disrupt public order. By combining strict enforcement of traffic regulations with a visible security presence, the Udhampur police aim to eliminate potential risks and ensure that the New Year festivities remain a joyous and accident-free experience for all tourists and residents alike.
