Tragic Road Accident in Rajouri: Poonch College Professor Killed, Husband Critically Injured
RAJOURI, Mar 26: A devastating road accident in the Kallar area of Rajouri district on Wednesday resulted in the death of a prominent academic and left her husband fighting for his life.
The deceased has been identified as 43-year-old Prof. Dr. Tabassum Naz, a faculty member of the Zoology Department at Government Degree College Poonch. Her husband, 42-year-old Mohd Hameed, a resident of Poonch, sustained life-threatening injuries when their Poonch-bound vehicle reportedly lost control and veered off the road into a deep gorge.
Following the crash, local residents launched an immediate rescue operation and shifted the couple to a nearby healthcare facility.
Despite medical efforts, Prof. Tabassum Naz succumbed to her injuries during treatment, while Hameed remains in critical condition under specialized medical care. Local police have visited the accident site and initiated a formal investigation to determine the technical or environmental factors that led to the vehicle losing control.
The tragic loss of the professor has sent shockwaves through the academic community and the Poonch region, once again bringing the urgent issue of road safety in hilly terrains to the forefront of public concern.
