Traffic via Margan top and Sinthan top Suspended

Srinagar, 18th August: Following a bad weather conditions,on Monday authorities banned temporarily the vehicular movement on the Margan Top and Sinthan Top roads. The measure is intended as a safeguard for people amid the heavy rains, slippery road conditions, and falling lands below in the area.

As per an official notice from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Kokernag, the stoppage was taken to avoid accidents due to poor visibility, water-logging of roads, and landslides caused by continuous heavy rains. The advisory also directed the concerned departments such as police, administration to implement the instructions strictly and divert the traffic accordingly. The administration has also appealed to the general public not to travel on these routes unnecessarily till further notice.

“In view of the unfavorable weather forecast, people are advised to cooperate with the authorities and for their own safety, not to use Margan Top and Sinthan Top routes,” the advisory said. The officials have deputized police and traffic staff to ensure that people follow the restrictions and have also appealed to residents to be extra cautious while travelling in other areas which are also affected by the situation. According to the India Meteorological Department, rains are likely to continue for the next 48 hours which is a matter of concern regarding surface transport disruptions. The authorities are keeping the situation under their surveillance and will re-evaluate the traffic suspension depending on the change of weather. In the meantime, the commuters are asked to keep themselves updated with the latest information from the official side.
