Total Lunar Eclipse 2026: Rare ‘Blood Moon’ to Grace Indian Skies on March 3; Check Timings and Visibility
NEW DELHI, March 02, 2026 — Astronomy enthusiasts across India are gearing up for a spectacular celestial event as a deep Total Lunar Eclipse is set to occur tomorrow, Tuesday, March 3, with a significant magnitude of 1.155.
This phenomenon occurs when the Moon passes entirely through the Earth’s dark umbral shadow, often resulting in a dramatic reddish hue known as a “Blood Moon.” While the eclipse will be visible across Eastern Asia, Australia, and the Americas, skywatchers in India will witness the concluding stages of the event during moonrise.
According to official timings, the partial eclipse begins at 3:20 PM IST, with the total phase (totality) lasting from 4:34 PM to 5:33 PM IST, and the entire event concluding by 6:48 PM IST.
While most of India will see the eclipse as the Moon rises, residents in North-Eastern India and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands will have a unique vantage point to witness the end of the total phase, making it a must-watch event for stargazers across the country.
