Teenage Son of VDG Member Killed in Accidental Shooting in Kishtwar, J&K
JAMMU, January 11, 2026 :- A tragic accident claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir after a weapon belonging to his father, a Village Defence Guard (VDG), discharged accidentally.
The incident occurred late Saturday night at their residence in Loyee Dhar village, located within the Mughal Maidan area.
According to official reports, the VDG member, identified as Pyare Lal, was cleaning his service rifle at approximately 9:30 PM when the weapon went off unexpectedly.
The resulting gunshot struck his son, Anuj Kumar, a Class 10 student, who reportedly died on the spot.Upon receiving information about the shooting, a police team rushed to the village to secure the scene.
The teenager’s body was subsequently moved to Chatroo Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Authorities have since seized the firearm for forensic analysis and are currently recording statements from family members to establish the exact sequence of events. Inquest proceedings are ongoing to determine any further circumstances surrounding the fatal discharge.
