Technical Evaluation of Chakoora Lift Irrigation Scheme Underway for Pulwama Farmers
JAMMU — February 09, 2026:-The Government of Jammu and Kashmir informed the Legislative Assembly on Monday that a comprehensive technical reappraisal of the Chakoora Lift Irrigation Scheme in Pulwama is currently in progress. Minister for Jal Shakti, Javed Ahmed Rana, while responding to a query raised by Legislator Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Mir, stated that this evaluation is essential to determine the feasibility of the project’s remaining components.
The reappraisal aims to provide an updated assessment of the Benefit Cost Ratio (BCR), the total remaining financial expenditure, and a precise map of the command area intended to be covered. Once the technical report is finalized, the administration plans to initiate the necessary steps to resume work and ensure the project meets its agricultural objectives.
Funded under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) 1.0, the scheme has faced significant delays in the past, which the Minister attributed to insufficient funding within the irrigation sector, particularly regarding central assistance.
By conducting this fresh technical audit, the government seeks to address these historical bottlenecks and realign the project with current infrastructure costs.
The completion of the Chakoora Lift Irrigation Scheme remains a critical goal for the region, as it is expected to provide much-needed water resources to the local farming community, thereby boosting agricultural productivity in the Pulwama district.
