KATHUA February 14, 2026: Citing a sensitive security environment and the risk of cross-border firing, the District Magistrate of Kathua, Rajesh Sharma (JKAS), has issued an urgent order to regulate movement along the International Border.
Invoking powers under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), the administration has restricted all unnecessary civilian activity within a 5 km radius of the border, specifically covering the stretch between BOP Paharpur Fwd and BOP Karol Krishna.
These measures are intended to safeguard local villagers and prevent any potential anti-national activities in the high-risk zone.In addition to the general proximity limits, the district administration has implemented a specific nighttime transit prohibition for heavy logistics.
The movement of trucks, tippers, and multi-axle vehicles is strictly forbidden on the old Samba-Kathua road during the hours of 09:00 PM to 06:00 AM. This targeted restriction aims to secure the area during the most vulnerable hours while allowing for essential security monitoring.
The order, effective immediately as of February 14, 2026, will remain in force for sixty days unless rescinded earlier. Since the directive was issued ex-parte due to the immediate nature of the security threat, the public is advised that any violations will result in punitive action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Local residents and transport operators are urged to plan their routes accordingly and avoid the restricted zones during the prohibited hours.
