POONCH, Jan 11 (2026) — Senior Superintendent of Police Poonch conducted a high-level security interaction today with members of the Village Defence Group (VDG) in the sensitive border village of Jhullas.
The meeting saw a significant turnout of approximately 140 to 150 VDG volunteers, underscoring the strong commitment of the local community toward maintaining public safety and supporting the border security framework.
During the session, volunteers raised several operational concerns, specifically focusing on the need for regular firing practice, advanced weapon handling training, and improved logistical support to better perform their duties in remote areas.
The SSP addressed the gathering by emphasizing the pivotal role VDG members play as the first line of defense in border regions. He briefed the volunteers on modern security mechanisms and stressed that their primary responsibility is to act as immediate responders during any suspicious activity or terrorist-initiated incidents.
The officer highlighted that the timely sharing of actionable intelligence with the police and other security agencies is crucial for neutralizing threats before they can cause harm to life or property. He urged the members to maintain the highest levels of vigilance and discipline while adhering strictly to standard operating procedures.
Concluding the interaction, the SSP commended the bravery and dedication shown by the VDG volunteers in safeguarding their villages under challenging conditions. He assured the group that the Jammu and Kashmir Police remains committed to providing the necessary training, guidance, and logistical resources to enhance their effectiveness.
By fostering mutual trust and coordination, the meeting aimed to bolster the resilience of border communities and further solidify the overall security grid along the Line of Control.
