SSG Road Open for Kargil-Bound Traffic; Mughal Road Remains Snowbound
SRINAGAR, January 9, 2026 — Traffic authorities have announced that the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari (SSG) Road will be open for one-way traffic from Srinagar toward Kargil on January 10, pending a “green signal” from the BRO and favorable weather. Under this plan, LMVs followed by HMVs (up to 6 tyres) will be allowed to move from Sonamarg between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
Due to slippery conditions, all motorists are mandated to carry anti-skid chains. In contrast, both the Mughal Road and the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag (NH-244) route remain strictly closed for all vehicular movement following significant fresh snow accumulation.
Travelers are advised to verify road status through official Traffic Control Units before beginning their journey.
