Srinagar Anti-Corruption Court Convicts Former Tehsildar in 2010 Bribery Case

SRINAGAR, March 23, 2026 — In a decisive move against public sector malpractice, the Special Judge of the Anti-Corruption Court in Srinagar, Dr. Tasleem Arief Ganie, has formally convicted Mohd Akram Khan, the former Tehsildar of Chadoora, in a long-standing bribery case.

Khan, a resident of Jawahar Nagar and originally from Aripal Tral, was found guilty of demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹20,000 from a complainant in exchange for settling a property dispute in their favor.

The case dates back to May 2010, when the Vigilance Organisation Kashmir (now the Anti-Corruption Bureau) orchestrated a successful “trap operation,” catching the official red-handed as he accepted the illicit payment.

Following a comprehensive investigation and a charge sheet filed in late 2010, the judicial process concluded today with the court sentencing Khan under Sections 5(2) and 5(1)(d) of the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act, alongside Section 161 of the RPC.

The Hon’ble Court handed down a sentence of one year of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹20,000.

This verdict is being hailed as a significant milestone for the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in its mission to enforce accountability and maintain the integrity of public service within the region.
