Srinagar ACB Arrests Tehsil Office Clerk for Accepting Bribe in Shalteng
SRINAGAR, Jan 3: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a clerk stationed at the Tehsil Office Central Shalteng for demanding and accepting an illegal gratification.
The accused, identified as Laiq Ahmad Nath, a resident of Qamarwari, Srinagar, allegedly demanded ₹2,000 from a complainant to erase records of their prior detention under preventive action (Section 126/170 BNSS). Unwilling to comply with the corrupt demand, the victim approached the ACB, prompting a discreet verification process that confirmed the allegations.
Following the verification, a trap team was organized and successfully caught Nath red-handed while he was accepting the bribe amount. The ACB has registered Case FIR No. 01/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, at the Police Station ACB Srinagar.
After completing necessary medico-legal formalities, the public servant was taken into custody. This operation marks the first major trap by the bureau in 2026, as investigations continue to determine if other officials were involved in the tampering of official registers.
