Sports Minister Satish Sharma Orders HR Reforms and Infrastructure Boost for J&K Youth Services
JAMMU, APRIL 01, 2026: In a comprehensive move to revitalize the sporting landscape of the Union Territory, Minister for Youth Services & Sports, Satish Sharma, chaired a high-level review meeting today to streamline departmental operations and address long-standing administrative bottlenecks.
Focusing on a “results-oriented” governance framework, the Minister emphasized the urgent need for a strategic roadmap that balances infrastructure expansion with critical human resource reforms.
Accompanied by Commissioner Secretary Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary and other senior officials, the Minister scrutinized ongoing programs and field-level operations, demanding a transparent system where government policies translate into tangible outcomes for young athletes across Jammu and Kashmir.
Central to the discussions were the welfare and morale of the grassroots workforce, with the Minister issuing direct instructions to fast-track the regularization of Rehbar-e-Khel (ReK) instructors by resolving procedural hurdles.
Recognizing the pivotal role played by National Youth Corps (NYC) volunteers in mobilizing youth, Satish Sharma advocated for an immediate enhancement of their honorarium and directed the department to explore viable modalities for their phased regularization.
He underscored that institutional stability for dedicated staff is essential for the department’s efficiency, calling for a rationalized, need-based staffing approach to ensure that rural and underserved zones receive adequate manpower and professional support.
The meeting also served as a platform to review the progress of world-class sports infrastructure, including indoor complexes and training centers. Minister Sharma directed that special priority be given to rural and far-flung areas to ensure inclusive development, while also calling for strict adherence to quality standards and timelines for project completion.
To maximize the impact of these initiatives, he stressed the importance of seamless coordination between the Department of Youth Services & Sports and the J&K Sports Council.
By leveraging technology and data-driven monitoring, the administration aims to build a vibrant sports culture that identifies talent early and provides local youth with a platform to excel on national and international stages.
